There are actual references for this one. Meet Titivillus (or Tutivillus), the patron demon of scribes. Originally crafted during the 13th century he persisted throughout the period of medival europe, popularity falling and rising as time passed. He is said to go about collecting scribal errors, distracting the weary writers and causing foul-ups. He carries a sack that must be filled 1000 times a day, the contents being taken to the devil. Titivillus started to falter slightly for a while with the fall of scholasticism, taking to haunting churches to collect the gossip and blasphemies of the church-goers, but gained new steam duing the Renaissance and the new influx of texts that were to be copied. There is even a story of a Pope who threatened excommunication shoud any mistakes be made during the copying of his rendition of the bible. It was recalled later with the sheer number of mistakes, of which the monks blamed on their demon. He supposedly continued to evolve with the advent of the printing press, and it is speculated he is still going strong today with the internet.
First heard of in this book: Medieval Calligraphy: Its History and Technique by Mark Drogin He was too fun not to use. And damned if he doesn't likely own my soul by this point. ^^ There were at least a handful in this, and I make plenty at any given point. Look him up. It's fun! I mean, how many things can actually claim to have a patron demon?
Many, many thanks to for the help with his design. I'm still working on his physical structure, and hopefully I'll get it funtional soon.
Titvillus belongs to himself. I like to think that he finds it funny to let me use him.
neat style on it i can't wait to see Titivillus when he is done.
